As some of you know our GT-R is over at SSP for some new product prototyping.  The latest thing out (read: you heard it here first) is this long runner intake system.  The rest of this post is going to be straight from the press release from our guy on the inside of it all.  We are well on our way to having the most powerful GT-R in the US.  There will be more to come in the morning.  Enjoy the words and photos.

SOUTH SIDE PERFORMANCE INTRODUCES THE WORLD’S FIRST INTAKE MANIFOLD FOR NISSAN’S R35 GTR , THE SSP 820RS INTAKE!

Sioux Falls, South Dakota (January 21, 2009) – South Side Performance is offering, another world’s first for the R35 GTR, the SSP 820RS intake manifold. This component is just the first in a line of SSP products that will move power hungry GTR owners towards 820 HP, when paired with our recently released GTR820RR Turbo Kit.

The intake design is the result of months of testing a wide variety of shapes and designs before finding a design that would make big power, and still be pleasing to the eye. As with nearly all SSP products, the intake utilizes stock lines, and is designed to utilize perfect stock style fitment of all under hood accessories.

But, this intake is more than just a pretty face, as its main purpose is to provide the lung capacity to make major power. With just simple bolt ons, this intake has been proven to make 15 whp and 28 Ft lbs of torque on stock turbos. These power gains are linear and constant all the way to red line, as the intake feeds an ever increasing supply of air to the GTR’s fire breathing 3.8L V6 (SEE DYNO GRAPH FOR DETAILS).

Specifications:

The 820RS Intake manifold’s design utilizes time tested racing technologies to make its power. The manifold incorporates 5 in extruded D-Plenum technology, 2 ¼ in velocity stacks, and 45 degree intake runners that utilize a straight shot for air into the intake. The openings are machined 60mm openings for fitment of the stock throttle bodies, but the intake also incorporates some room to grow should you want to later upgrade to larger throttle bodies down the line. The result of all this technology is an intake that has over 2 times the air volume capacity over stock and is also lighter than the unit it replaces. No need for your plastic intake cover as this intake is sure to draw they eye in either raw machined aluminum or a gloss black powder coat.

Price and Availability:

This upgrade can be purchased direct or from any of SSP distributors and is available today for $2,699.00. Availability is limited, as these units are built to order, but wait time will be minimal, usually about one working week. Here is a video and a dyno graph of the ZCG/SSP R35 on the SSP dyno out in South Dakota.  The car is out there to get fitted for prototype SSP parts, some are secret and some parts are meant to be released fairly soon.  So far they have fitted the SSP intake manifold and larger throttle bodies to get the graph below.  We can’t wait to see the next set of results!

I don’t have all the background info on the runs but I will try to dig up some for you.

There are going to be lot’s of other cutting edge GT-R modifications while the car is at South Side Performance and we could not be happier that we have teamed up with them to make one of the most bitchin GT-Rs on the face of the planet.  The best news is that you will be able to get all the latest updates on our GT-R right here as I get them.

SSP and ZCG together make killer GT-Rs.

Aren’t you glad you have zcarblog.com?

New GT-R Videos from Buttonwillow Track Day

by Forbes @ 11:05 am on January 12, 2009

I have just received a couple new videos of the Buttonwillow Raceway track outing.  The first one was made by the the infamous Craig Lieberman (of Fast and Furious fame) and the second was done by Thomas Ramies who is the father of the professional driver that drove our GT-R.

I would like to thank everyone at the track day that sent me footage. I would also like to thank South Side Performance and Cobb Tuning for their support and getting parts to us with a quickness.

We should also be getting some new parts for the GT-R this week so expect to see a post on that soon.  Happy Monday!!!

ZCG GT-R Updates….

by Forbes @ 9:27 am on January 7, 2009

I’m still waiting to hear back from my connections about the GT-R meet here at ZCG on the 24th so to hold you over here are a few videos of our GT-R.

The first one is of professional driver Michael Ramies putting the car through it’s paces around Buttonwillow Raceway at the GT-R only trackday last month.  The next couple of videos were shot while the car was down in LA after the trackday to do some more R&D for our up and coming GT-R product line.

I’ll post up more about the GT-R meet as I get more information.  There will also be some photos coming today of the Silicon Valley Auto Show.  We took eleven cars this year, only one of which is a repeat from last year.  We make some pretty cool cars here, in case you were wondering.  Enjoy the videos!

ZCG GT-R Shows Well at Buttonwillow Trackday

by Forbes @ 12:44 am on December 30, 2008

Even though things have been crazy with all of the R&D work we have been doing lately, time has been found to install a few new items on the GT-R and head off to the track!!  The special thing about this particular outing is that it was ONLY for GT-Rs!  Entry was limited to twelve cars and we were lucky enough to make our way into the group.

I would at this point like to mention that we have been working super hard on getting our own ZCG harness bar made and installed in our GT-R.  This track-day is the first time it has seen battle and it worked perfectly.  Our design is much simpler than the competition’s bar (as seen in the AXIS Wheels GT-R) but there will be more on that later on in this post and a follow-up post with pictures tomorrow.

Our day began with Rob, Fred, and myself meeting at the shop in San Jose at 4:30am.  Not much sleep last night.  We packed up our previously prepared “track-day kit” (tools, jack, spare wheels etc.) and headed on our way to Buttonwillow Raceway.  We got to the track at 7:45 and met with the group for a few minutes before the drivers meeting.  Since everyone in the group knew each other, thanks to the small GT-R community, the track rules were fairly easy going and allowed for a ton of freedom.

The plan was to have six cars go out in half hour sessions but as soon as the cars were warmed up they were all out on track.  With such a small group though no one seemed to notice because we would be running track configuration 13 clockwise which has a length of almost 3 miles.  Nice.

Throughout the day cars would pull in and out of the pits as they pleased.  There seemed to be multiple driver, wheel, and camera equipment changes in a few camps besides our own.  It was good to see owners and drivers out and experimenting with the cars.  We personally went through three or four drivers throughout the day and went as far as inviting a professional out for the day to see what our car was capable of in some truly gifted hands.

As you can see from the early photos of the day we were running our one-off set of HRE wheels but tire rubbing issues (due to limited available tire sizes) sidelined the new Nittos we acquired a week earlier.  So after two sessions we were back on the the stock wheels with the OEM Bridgestone run flats.  These tires held up all day in full beat-down sessions without issue.  It’s amazing how professional drivers know how to take care of tires (anyone remember that scene from “Days of Thunder” with Bobby D?)

We managed a best time of 2:02 on the stock wheels and run-flat tires, quite the accomplishment.

Update:  We went through the lap timer this morning and found a 2:00 lap which took place in one of the very last sessions of the day.  How crazy is this car going to be when we get some real rubber?!

Keep reading for the entire event report and more photos.
