Gilbert W wanted a CARB-legal solution for more power on his daily driven G37 sedan.  We’ve had great success with our past Stillen Supercharger builds and this forced-induction kit would be ideal for Gilbert’s needs.

Installation of the Stillen kit is straightforward. We use one-step colder GT-R spark plugs and a 19-row oil cooler:

Better breathing on the exhaust side courtesy of a full Fast Intentions exhaust system:

Gilbert wanted improved handling without unnecessary harshness. The TEIN mono flex coil-over system with active EDFC allows on-board and speed-sensitive dampening adjustments! We installed a similar setup on Tetsuya’s 350z earlier this year. SPC F/R control arms were installed followed by a full alignment:

A relatively new item for Z/G owners is this trick adjustable clutch pedal box from RJM Performance. It offers improved driveability in terms of clutch-pedal engagement and that annoying shudder we’ve all experienced in Nissan’s Z/G manual transmissions:

The PLX Devices multi-gauges are becoming a popular method for monitoring engine vitals. Gilbert is using their Bluetooth “Kiwi” interface allowing display through smart phones. We did a neat install of this unit in Steve’s Vortech G35:

With the supercharger and exhaust in place we dyno tuned Gilbert’s G37. Baseline numbers were 283hp/241tq and it is now making 417hp/319tq to the wheels.  This is a gain of +134hp/78tq which once again shows how consistent power output has been with these kits!

Enjoy the Ride, Gilbert!

Ashley’s ZR…Updated Pictures

We featured Ashley’s Z33 Roadster back in November ’10 when her Z-obssessed husband brought the car in for Tein springs and dual-JWT pop chargers. The car still sports the same tasteful drop but now sits on a mint set of 19″ Volk Progressive Spoke wheels(discontinued) in gloss black with polished lips.

ZCG also installed that neat “Z” emblem which doubles as a LED side marker, here is a short video of it in action:

Ashley’s husband is none other than Scott S, fearless driver of the GreenMachine. Scott also owns one of the baddest Twin-Turbo Z32s on the planet. I will do a feature on his car soon, but here is a teaser of his latest set of wheels on the 300:

Z Are Family (Part2)

Here is another amazing example of Motorsports bringing a family together. Rob’s wife Astrid had a birthday coming up so it was time for their Daytona Blue ’07 350z ‘vert to get some B-day love. Living off a mountain road Rob and Astrid needed a car that could be both comfortable and sporty. The couple have had their fair share of track days and Astrid has driven in the 24hrs of Lemons race while Rob has a G37 Sport coupe has his daily driver.

The Z came to ZCG for a 30k service with some upgrades to add some excitement to Astrid’s commute. Like most upgrade sessions at ZCG we started with a baseline dyno to see what we were working with:

Once the services and baseline was complete we installed a set of the Injen intakes and a Bassani exhaust system. These 2 bolt-ons gained 20hp/13tq!

Rob and Astrid wanted this Z to be able to handle any curvy road and  the occasional Track Day. A combination of braking and suspension upgrades were installed, starting with TEIN Flex coilovers with EDFC control unit. This allows the driver to pick from 16 levels of dampening force:

A nice compliment to the coilovers is the adjustable sway bar set from Hotchkis:

We installed our favorite brake pads for any sport driving, the STOPTECH 309 in addition to a full brake and clutch bleed with Motul 600.
With the power mods, brakes, and suspension Rob and Astrid should be able to enjoy a track day or drive on any curvy road with a smile on their faces:)

You know its true love when your wife drives a Z . Ashley took a trip out of town and while she was gone her sneaky Z-obsessed husband dropped her ’07 350z off for some ZCG love. A family that Zs together stays together.  First item on the list for this visit was a baseline dyno to see what we were working with, then a quick install of dual JWT Pop Charger air intakes:

The VQ35HR engine responds well to minor bolt-ons and the addition of JWT intakes resulted in an impressive gain of 17hp/13tq! Plus they look great and sound heavenly when Ashley leans on the loud pedal.

Ashley’s Z sports a set of SSR GT3 wheels with stock ride height. Every Z can benefit from a little lowering, especially with aftermarket wheels/tires.  TEIN S-tech springs were called upon to give the Z a mild drop. Pics coming soon!

The last detail was a set of LED side markers that are both stylish and functional for when Ashley needs to switch lanes and pass the slower traffic 🙂

Stay tuned for Part 2 of “Z Are Family”

Little By Little: G35 Gets the Job Done

Filed under: Featured Cars and Projects,Performance
by Forbes @ 8:47 pm on September 25, 2009

The problem with hanging around all of us at ZCG is that you get the urge to modify your car whenever you see something else cool in the shop.  I’ve probably heard it a hundred times, “Yeah I think I’m just going to put a pop-charger on it for a few extra horsepower and then I’ll be happy.”  This sentence is usually followed by a chuckle from everyone within an ear shot.

Inevitably it begins to snowball.  “Hey Rob I bought some wheels (VOLK SF Challenge in gold), can you guys install them?”  Followed by, “Wow the wheels look great but what can we do about the stance now?” (Tein FLEX coil-overs with Hotchkis swaybars) Everyone continues to chuckle because we know where this is heading… FORCED INDUCTION.

That is exactly how this build went, well in a little different order but you get the gist of it.  This Rev-Up Equipped (2nd gen VQ35 engine with dual variable camshafts) G35 has come back to us one more time to receive the final phase of its build, maybe.

The owner of this beauty has chosen to do one HUGE final step, everyone gets a little impatient when they can see the end in sight.  Here is the rundown on what we have just completed:

Jim Wolf Technologies Camshafts

Stillen Headers

Bassani cat-back exhaust system

ZCG Custom Oil Cooler

ZCG Custom Cold Air Intake

Defi Gauges and custom mounting for the controller

Tein EDFC (Electronic Damping Force Controller) with custom mounting, the car already has full Tein Flex coil-overs and Hotchkis sway bars

Sillen Series Two Front Bumper with splitter

Oh yeah…

and a Vortech Engineering Polished Supercharger kit

Even after all these years of installing Vortech supercharger kits we can still be caught off guard by the power they produce and the high quality of their product.  The fit and finish of the product is top notch witch goes a long way in a highly involved build such as this one.

From the dyno graph here you can see the tremendous jump in both horsepower and torque thanks to the exhaust, camshafts, and supercharger upgrades.  417 horsepower at the wheels is nothing to joke about, in fact we ended up pulling a couple degrees of timing after the 417 run in the best interest of reliability.  The car was delivered to the customer making just over 400 when all was said and done.  High numbers are great, but making them last for years to come is better.

Oh one more thing, It made this power through the stock cats!!!  So there is more power to be had if we switch to high-flow cats or test pipes, if he decides it is necessary.

You may have also noticed our new mounting locations for both the Tein EDFC controller and the DEFI gauge controller.  This new install is super clean and has almost a factory feel to it.  Pretty sweet.  We also decided to change the mounting of our ZCG oil cooler on this build to maximize airflow from the new Stillen bumper and to improve the overall aesthetics of the front end, this too turned out really well.

Other than that there isn’t really much to report, that is if you think that tire shredding power isn’t news worthy.  My prediction for this customer’s next upgrade is a new set of rear tires in a month.  See you soon friend (chuckle).
