ZCG PARTS: Pat’s Skyline Running ZCG CV Axles!

Filed under: Featured Cars and Projects,Parts
by Alvin G @ 2:07 am on June 22, 2020

We love to see our products being installed and used on customer cars. Datsun enthusiast Pat S is running our Z Car Garage CV Axles in his 550whp RB26-powered Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-X.

Pat installed our CV Axles himself on his 1973 Kenmeri Skyline and reports that it went smoothly. Here are a few pictures he sent us:

We were stoked to hear Pat report the improvement over his standard half shafts:

“Testing out my new axles from Z Car Garage…no more clunking, no more vibrations, just smooth as glass. Strong as hell too”

Here is the video of Pat “testing” out the new CV Axles, enjoy!

Pat is also a member of the Wild Cards, a group of enthusiasts based in Southern California. You may have seen their crew featured on the Hoonigans:

Pat’s Kenmeri has been featured in both Super Street and Speedhunters. We recall admiring it at the 2016/17 Japanese Classic Car Show:

As if the Rb26 wasn’t enough, the extremely rare Riverside Super River wheels re-finished by Izanami captivated us:

Here is a fun fact about Pat: we were both participants at the All-Datsun Meet at Mt. Shasta back in in 2004! This 3-day event featured a full track day at Thunderhill  Raceway before heading up North. Pat drove his SR20DET-powered Datsun 510 (blue, front row):

Thank you Pat for supporting Z Car Garage! Check out our other parts including the Z Car Garage Big-Brakes and Z Car Garage Heat Sheild and Enjoy The Ride!

ZCG PARTS: Z Car Garage Heat Shield On 260z Race Car!

by Alvin G @ 9:36 pm on February 25, 2020

We love to see our products being installed and used on customer cars. Race car driver and restoration specialist Jim Froula of Racecraft is running our latest ZCG Heat Shield in his vintage 260z race car!

A few close-ups of the ZCG Heat Shield, this piece is serial #0025:

A short background on this 1973 Datsun 260Z from Jim:

“This car was built in the winter of ’77-’78 and its first event was the Portland Rose Cup in June 1978. The Portland Rose Festival’s queen, Tina Klassy, was photographed with the car and featured in local advertising for the event. The car competed in SCCA CP class mainly in events on the west coast and ran in the SCCA National Runoffs twice with sponsorship help from Carlos Vercelli, owner of well known Datsun specialty service shop “Carlos Garage” in Fullerton, CA . It was campaigned successfully at a national level, including a 3rd place finish at the SCCA runoff’s. Survived in its original production class specification and bodywork throughout the entire time. It received a cosmetic restoration in 2015 and was put back into its original Carlos’s Garage livery and currently runs vintage events across the country today.”

At the 2018 RMMR we were happy to see Carlos Vercelli (red hat) supporting the Z with driver John Murray:

When we last saw Erich C he visited Z Car Garage for some sorting on his 1973 Datsun 240z, reported in our blog post here. The Z was fresh from a restoration by fellow racer and Datsun 510 specialist Troy Ermish, sporting a Rebello 3L with triple Mikuni carbs and many hot rod parts:

Erich’s Z made an impressive 261hp to the wheels on our dyno and he felt the need to have brakes to match that power. We recently installed our ZCG Big-Brakes for small wheels on Glenn’s Fairlady and his review was positive:

“WOW, what a difference. The feel, modulation, power, sharpness was amazing. Hands down the best brakes I had ever driven on a Z car”

As Glenn mentioned in his review, on top of braking performance, pedal feel is extremely important and our Big-Brakes deliver. This is a direct result of working with Stoptech to create a totally bolt-in solution requiring no M/C change or additional proportioning valve/adjustments, etc. After Erich drove Glenn’s Fairlady with the Big-Brakes, he was a believer. Erich returned to ZCG to have the brake kit installed on his S30.

The existing new Wilwood brake setup was removed and replaced with the ZCG Big-Brake kit at all 4 corners.

Erich was really stoked about the parking brake assembly, and now he has a fully functioning parking brake, utilizing the factory hand brake lever and linkage. This was another key request for our customers when creating the Big-Brakes.

A few more detail shots of the brakes:

And of course, the brakes fit easily under Erich’s sexy 15×8 zero offset Watanabe wheels:

For great stopping power, feel and bolt-in convenience, look no further than ZCG Big-Brakes for small wheels! Stay tuned as we bring you more Z’s getting the kit installed, joining our customers Frank, Sam, and Glenn. Erich is really happy with the brakes and we loved working on his Z, Enjoy The Ride!
