Everyone had a great time at Laguna Seca on Saturday. We had a great turnout at ZCarGarage for the morning caravan to the races with 15 cars. It was definitely exciting to drive down the freeway with more than a dozen Datsuns/Nissans!
When we arrived at ‘Seca ZONC had already setup the corral with coffee/donuts and Ann even procured our Laguna Seca souvenirs, thanks Ann! There were 27 cars in our corral, a great showing for sure! Here are few cars that caught my eye. This blue RHD 240z was gorgeous with a “twice-pipe” exhaust system and Rebello motor that dyno’d at 240rwhp!
Scott S recently added an APR rear spoiler to Green Machine for more downforce on road courses…we will report on its performance soon. Dan M drove his beautiful orange 240z that now has twin-SU carbs replacing the triple-mikuni setup.
How cool is this IMSA-inspired Z? This was the owner’s first time at Datsun gathering, thanks for showing this flared beast!
Here is a very a sexy Z32TT that we will feature soon, and Will C’s Datsun Roadster :
The various car corrals were filled with plenty of vintage metal. We checked out a few cars before touring the paddock. Jaguar was the featured marque, so the main corral was filled with E-types galore. Who knows, maybe Datsun will be here one day 🙂
There are many more pictures of corral cars in the gallery!
Cruising through the paddock is always a candy store-like experience for me. This year there was just as exciting as last with fanatically prepped race cars and street models as well. I am always on the hunt for Datsuns and there were several! Two 240zs and two roadsters. The Frank Monise Datsun Roadster was raced by owner Adam Carolla. This 2000 was meticulously prepared by well known Datsun restorer Les Cannaday. It also featured the new “LeMans” replica wheel from VTO wheels.
The photos above were taken by Marshall Pruett, he wrote the article about my Datsun roadster featured in SportCompactCar magazine in 2005!
The Jim Fitzgerald roadster was also in the paddock and on the track! Check out the flared front fenders and subtly flared rears…no doubt necessary to house the Konig Rewind wheels on slicks:
This Bob Sharp #33 240z was grabbing up the competition, gaining 7 spots in the first few laps but unfortunately did not finish the race…awesome to watch though!
I have never seen this many Ferrari’s racing on the track!
We spotted this super clean SR20DET-powered Bluebird coupe in all of its RHD beauty. The interior was very nicely done and we were surprised to see a mellow, tucked-away exhaust system in place of a unusually large drift-style canister:
After the final race we were treated to a few demo laps from the Mazda Rotary-powered race cars. Those lucky to watch the races on Sunday will be able to see the Nissan GTP car run!
Check the gallery for more paddock pics and see next year for the next Monterey Motosports Reunion!
